A trophy for the AlphaJET

MGI Digital Technology wins the 2018 Packaging Oscar with its AlphaJET

The concept of Industrial Print Factory 4.0 supported by the AlphaJET seduced the jury of the 2018 Packaging Oscars, by its technological innovation and the optimization of production processes that it brings in the printing and finishing of packaging and wrapping.

It was in a festive atmosphere that took place yesterday evening in Paris, the 2018 Packaging Oscars Award Ceremony, which celebrated the innovation brought to the packaging market by the AlphaJET, unveiled the same morning by MGI Digital Technology, at the opening of the All4pack international packaging exhibition.

Awarded unanimously by the Jury of the Oscars, the AlphaJET is indeed a breakthrough innovation in the packaging and printing market.

Industrial digital press in B1 format (up to 75×120) dedicated to packaging, the AlphaJET combines on the same circular production line, 6 digital printing and finishing steps:

  • printing of a Varnish or COATING and/or a 5e COLOR (white)
  • QUADRI JET D'INCRE (DuraLink Memjet® aqueous pigment ink).
  • digital application of a selective UV Varnish, flat or in relief, in fixed or variable data
  • digital hot stamping, flat or relief, in fixed or variable data
  • printing of DIGITAL HOLOGRAMS in fixed or variable data
  • removal of PRINTED ELECTRONICS elements (NFC antennas and circuits compatible with flexible OLED screens)
Industrial Print Factory 4.0: An entire production line on a single machine

The AlphaJET is a revolutionary circular production line, along which the various printing and finishing units are positioned. The paper is transported through suction trays, driven by an electromagnetic linear motor.

This technological breakthrough guarantees a precision of 5 microns, for a unique printing and finishing quality, while allowing the processing of rigid substrates, covering all the substrates of the packaging world.

In front of nearly 240 guests, Jean-Marc Doré, member of the Jury and President of Geppia, presented the Packaging Oscar to Edmond Abergel, President of MGI Digital Technology, and Raphaël Renaud, AlphaJET Project Manager.

On this occasion, Edmond Abergel said, "It is with great pride that we received this 2018 Packaging Oscar, which materializes the disruption that the AlphaJET brings to the packaging, packing and printing market. The AlphaJET best represents our Factory 4.0 strategy, consisting of offering equipment that integrates functionalities previously performed on several machines or outsourced. With the AlphaJET, manufacturers benefit from significant productivity gains, optimize production processes and can produce very high value-added packaging with ease.

The AlphaJET will be exhibited at the All4pack trade fair from 26 to 29 November, where it will print and finish B1 format cases, sleeves and boxes on ESKA and Metsä substrates under production conditions. The printed and coated sheets are then die-cut on the Fogepack stand.

Some of these cases and boxes integrate printed electronics and oled screens, in order to demonstrate the full potential of the Smartpackaging market, of which MGI Digital Technology is one of the pioneers.

Note that on the morning of this 2018 Packaging Oscar, the AlphaJET had already been awarded an Innovation Award from the All4Pack Pack Experts Committee.
